Hi friends, while I have decent internet access and a computer to use - here is an update on what Willem and I are up to these days. From my last post you will know that Willem and I left Edinburgh in December after two wonderful years due to Willem's work visa ending. A while ago we decided it wasn't quite time to go back to New Zealand so looked into other countries for work visas and Canada came out on top. During our time in Edinburgh we didn't get to see all the places in Europe we had hoped so thought we'd do a couple of trips on the way to Vancouver. Well, that couple of trips has now turned in to 7 months backpacking through the UK, Europe, India, and South East Asia before eventually landing in Vancouver. I am one month into unemployment and am loving it. Here are a few highlights of the past month.
Willem's parents travelled with us for the first three weeks around the UK and a little of Spain. It was amazing getting to show Scotland off and for them to see where we had been living. The Scottish Highlands will always be one of my favourite places, the dramatic hills and rustic colours make it unbeatable. We got to see some of Scotland we hadn't seen before which was such a bonus. During 5 days of tiki touring we visited the following:
For some reason I wasn't expecting much from Madrid. We went to Spain last year for New Years and stayed in a small place just south of Barcelona called Sitges. This New Years we spent in Toledo just outside of Madrid. I ended up loving Sitges much more than Barcelona and was expecting the same from Toledo and Madrid. However, Madrid won me over right away. The vibe of the city was amazing.
We were in Amsterdam two years ago so thought we knew what to expect but this time it blew us away. We did everything Amsterdam had to offer in a 2 & 1/2 day period - some of it amazing, some of it terrifying and some of it just plain strange. The city is beautiful and is a great city to just get lost and take in the surroundings. We also got to visit some of Willem's Dutch relatives which is always special. Oh and the food was amazing as you will see below!
We are now in Berlin after catching the night bus from Holland. We've got a long journey ahead of us to Vancouver so I will try and write updates as much as possible/when I have access to a computer.
